I am in the process of doing a massive, massive spring cleaning in my room to accommodate a better working space - so there’s a whole bunch of old forgotten sketches and drawings found hidden among a mess of stuff I can’t quite decide whether to keep or throw out.
Here is one such sketch. I think this dates back to around 2006-2007 or so, when I started concocting up a story called ‘Odd Sarah’. It’s about a girl who’s life was never the same when she encountered a suspicious looking chicken on the way to work. Somewhere along the way there’s an angry tomato, a weed-smoking mentor and an octopus with perpetual hypertension. Yeah, I don’t even know what I was smoking back then lol.
Another thing is that I miss this kind of loose, spontaneous strokes that I used to have back then. Where did it go?! It’s sometimes scary to see how one’s artworks evolve in the years. There’re things I achieve and improve on, skill-wise, but somehow I lose something along the way too.
My tablet sputtered while working on the first two drawing - the stylus just *won’t* register on the tablet with increasing frequency and completely died just as I finished the 2nd drawing in the middle.
So you can imagine how pissed I was. I might have to start some sketch card commissions to get a new tablet asap because while the tablet had been rather clunky in recent times, I wasn’t prepared for it to die off so abruptly. Plus I had it for about 9 years now, so there’s a whole lot of sentimental value in that old thing, and I was quite reluctant to let it go >.<
And then I discovered something- I can actually still draw with it using the eraser end in Painter SAI. Which is really weird, because before the eraser.. did just that - erase my lines in both SAI and Photoshop. But somehow after prolonged frustrated tappings (I may have added a few bangs in between T_T) on the tablet with the drawing end of the stylus with nothing registering, I flipped the stylus to the eraser end to see if still works and it did - just not quite the way I expected it to. But it only works that way in SAI, in Photoshop all it does is erase (like it’s supposed to).
That last picture was drawn with the eraser tip. It’s super weird, but it works! For now. I’m almost afraid to switch off SAI, just in case my stylus reverted back to the way it was when I run it back up, and I’ll end up with a drawing tip that won’t draw, and an eraser tip that just erases which doesn’t really do much for me.
Ah well. Time to get a new one anyways, and hope the flipped stylus would work for me for the time being.
also, finally got the gumption to draw for Sketch_Dailies, (that last picture), the latest theme is ‘selfie’. Revel in my stinkface!
Spent the afternoon-dinnertime with momochanners and eisuverse looking for booth stuff for the upcoming local comic convention. Came back and decided to do a couple of winding down sketches. This was originally intended to be Sephiroth, but Thranduil came out instead.
I wonked up his fab crown pretty badly though - I don’t think he’d be too happy with that XD
