Remember the Ariel sketch I did a few posts back? Finally managed to finish colouring it in between work. I might’ve over-did the background but am quite happy at how it turned out.
I was one of those who was rather glad for Disney version of the Little Mermaid when it came out because Hans Christian Andersen’s version would always, always depress me. I used to skip it when I read my fairy-tales collection because, damnit, the poor girl practically turned into foam after giving up everything that was most precious to her for the (unrequited) love of a man.
In recent years though I think I can appreciate the original story with all its grim outcome! Now that I think about it, it’s probably really a cautionary tale for frisky young’uns prone to running away with people they’ve just met.
